To treat vomiting, take a bowl of sesame seeds, grind them finely, add a little cooled boiled water, and extract the juice. When drinking, mix in a little salt, and the condition will improve.
The sesame plant, also known as sesame, is called “Chima” in Chinese, and the seeds are referred to as “Chi ma tử.” Historical texts record that the sesame plant originated in the region of Hu (the ancient name for India); hence, the Chinese refer to sesame (including black sesame) as “Hu ma” and the seeds as “Hu ma tử.” Additionally, sesame is known by various names such as Du tử miêu, Duma, Cẩu sát, and Cự thắng.
According to the “Bản thảo cương mục” (Compendium of Materia Medica), sesame seeds nourish the five internal organs and can be steamed with honey to cure many ailments. The “Nam dược thần hiệu” (Divine Efficacy of Southern Medicine) states: “Sesame seeds are sweet in flavor, cool in nature, non-toxic, smooth in texture, promote digestion, detoxify, reduce heat accumulation, and have antiseptic properties. They can help induce labor and are effective for treating sores.”
There are two types of sesame: white and black, with black sesame having more medicinal properties and being used for medicinal purposes. Black sesame is sweet in flavor and neutral in nature, beneficial for nourishing blood, relieving constipation, strengthening internal organs, alleviating weakness, boosting vitality, enriching the brain, strengthening bones, enhancing eyesight, and improving intelligence. Externally, it can be applied to treat swelling, burns, and can be made into plasters for sores.
The leaves of the sesame plant are sweet and cool, acting to enhance energy, nourish the brain and spinal cord, strengthen bones, and alleviate rheumatic pain. Regularly boiling sesame leaves for hair rinsing helps maintain shiny black hair and revitalizes the complexion. If fresh sesame leaves are ground and the juice is extracted, it can treat prolonged menstrual bleeding.
Some Remedies
General tonic for various ailments (to be taken together): Mix equal amounts of black sesame and young mulberry leaves, grind into powder, and form into pills for daily consumption.
To treat bruises and pain: Mix sesame oil with alcohol and consume for relief.
To treat snake bites: Chew a few sesame seeds and apply them to the bite, then bandage.
To treat constipation: Drink a bowl of sesame oil or eat a handful of sesame seeds every morning, or cook sesame porridge for easier consumption.
To treat burns: Use sesame oil or chew raw black sesame seeds and apply them to the burn area for effective results, promoting new skin growth.
To treat early-stage dysentery: Consume 30 grams of raw black sesame seeds daily for three days.
To treat mania: According to “Nam dược thần hiệu,” mix 160 grams of sesame oil with a bowl of alcohol, heat it; take 20 willow branches, and use each branch to stir in circles twice until the alcohol and sesame oil reduce to 80%, then have the patient drink it to induce vomiting and deep sleep. Do not wake them; let them sleep until they naturally awaken.
To treat sunstroke and fainting: Roast 40 grams of black sesame until nearly burnt, cool it, grind into powder, and administer 12 grams mixed with fresh water for effective results (according to “Nam dược thần hiệu”).
To treat severe poisoning: Administer a bowl of sesame oil; the poison will be expelled (according to “Nam dược thần hiệu”).
To treat jaundice due to typhoid (according to “Ngoại đài bí yếu”): Use fresh black sesame seeds, grind finely, extract enough oil for a tea cup, add half a tea cup of water and one egg white, mix well, and consume all at once; repeat a few times for recovery.
To treat bloating: Use one bowl of black sesame (cooked rice) to make porridge, add a little salt and a small piece of chopped tangerine peel, let it cool slightly before consuming for relief.
To treat blood in urine (according to “Nam dược thần hiệu”): The cause is due to heat stagnation in the heart lowering the temperature in the small intestines, leading to blood in urine. Take 40 grams of black sesame, grind finely, soak in 80 grams of flowing water overnight, and drink the extracted water in the morning (boiled and cooled water can be used if concerned about hygiene).
To treat bleeding sores: According to “Ứng nghiệm lương phương,” drinking a bowl of sesame oil will help stop the bleeding.
To treat sore, inflamed sores: Take a handful of black sesame, roast, grind finely, clean the pus and blood from the sore with warm salt water, and apply the sesame powder to the sore a few times for healing.
To treat back pain: If caused by kidney deficiency or wind-cold dampness: Roast 40 grams of black sesame until burnt, grind into powder, and take 12 grams with alcohol, honey, or ginger water a few times for relief (according to “Nam dược thần hiệu”).
To treat chronic dysentery: Take one bowl of black sesame seeds, grind finely, boil with a little honey, and consume twice daily for several days for recovery.
To treat chronic colitis: Roast 40 grams of black sesame until fragrant and mix with one bowl of molasses, taking one tablespoon of sesame mixed with one-third tablespoon of molasses twice daily for a month for recovery.
To treat pain in limbs with slight swelling: This condition is due to damp heat infiltration causing pain and slight swelling in limbs. Treat with 40 grams of black sesame, roast until fragrant, grind into powder, combine with 40 grams of alcohol, soak overnight, and consume in divided doses for gradual improvement (according to “Nam dược thần hiệu”).
To treat sudden deafness: This is often due to kidney issues, causing the kidney and heart energies to become imbalanced. Drop a few drops of sesame oil into the ear daily until hearing returns (according to “Nam dược thần hiệu”).
To treat toothaches: Toothaches caused by excessive heat can be treated by boiling black sesame in three bowls of water, reducing to one bowl, and gargling several times daily; usually, two times will suffice.
To treat sore throat, difficulty speaking, and painful swallowing: Use sesame oil to gargle and swallow slowly for effective relief. To treat difficult childbirth due to dry amniotic fluid: Mix one bowl each of sesame oil and honey, boil several times, skim off the foam, then mix with 40 grams of “hoạt trạch” and administer to the mother for delivery (according to “Nam dược thần hiệu”).
To treat mastitis: This condition occurs in women after childbirth when milk ducts become blocked, causing swelling and pain (breast abscess). Chew fresh sesame seeds and apply them to the swollen, painful area several times for relief.
To treat hair loss: Take one bowl of sesame, roast and grind finely, add sugar, and drink multiple times; hair will become shiny and stop falling out.
To treat insufficient milk (according to “Tế thế kỳ phương”): Take 40 grams of black sesame, roast with salt, then grind finely and mix with sticky rice or glutinous rice for effective results.
To treat postpartum abdominal issues: Take paper soaked in sesame oil, burn it, and blow the smoke into the mother’s nose; the intestines will return to normal (according to “Y học chuẩn thằng”).
To treat heart pain during pregnancy: According to “Thiên kim phương,” take a handful of sesame seeds, boil with two cups of water, and filter out the residue, drinking the remaining water for relief.
To treat retained stillbirth: Mix 40 grams of sesame oil with 40 grams of palm sugar, add water, boil, and then drink; this will help expel the fetus (according to “Phổ tế phương”).
To treat difficult labor: Mix one cup of sesame oil with one cup of honey, boil until reduced by half, and administer three times for successful delivery (according to “Phổ tế phương”).
To treat itching and sores in the perineum: Chew a few sesame seeds and apply to the sore area several times for relief.
To treat unattractive, short, dry, and dull hair: You can use one of the following methods:
– Take 40 grams of sesame oil and cook with a handful of fresh mulberry leaves; when the oil is well cooked, remove the leaves and apply the oil to the hair and scalp regularly for beautiful, long, shiny hair.
– Take a handful of sesame leaves, a handful of mulberry leaves, and 40 grams of rice water, cook together, and use this water to wash hair; after seven washes, you will see results.
To treat high fever in children: When children have a high fever, take a bowl of sesame oil, add a little onion juice, mix well, and apply to the head, face, neck, chest, back, and palms to soothe the fever.
To treat rash in children: Rash in children often presents as sudden swelling and redness on the face, body, arms, or legs, accompanied by itchiness and discomfort, causing restless sleep. To eliminate newly developed rashes, apply sesame oil all over the body for relief.
To treat newly developed edema: This condition is caused by toxins accumulating in the body, leading to swelling and hard lumps that cause pain. Take a bowl of sesame oil, add onion juice, and concentrate until the liquid turns dark; apply this hot mixture to the swollen area for immediate relief.
To treat long-term abscesses that won’t heal: Use roasted black sesame, grind into powder, and sprinkle onto the abscess several times to promote healing, which is highly effective according to “Nam dược thần hiệu.”
To treat toxic abscesses: Also according to “Nam dược thần hiệu,” boil 40 grams of sesame oil for a long time, then add a bowl of clear vinegar. Divide this mixture into five parts, taking one part each time for effective results.
To treat swollen and painful hands and feet from prolonged exposure to water: Take raw sesame seeds, grind them finely, and apply to the swollen, painful area several times for relief.
To treat white ringworm: Take one bowl of sesame oil and mix with alcohol, consuming three times a day until recovery.
To treat snake bites: Chew sesame seeds and apply; swelling and pain will subside shortly.
