Russian photographer Andrey Pavlov has dedicated countless hours to capturing incredibly unique photographs of ants.
Recognizing that these insects move along a specific path while foraging, Pavlov set up his props along their routes and documented how they interacted with these objects. “I chose ants because I admire them and their way of life. Young ants always take care of their offspring and look after the elder ants.“
Every summer, Pavlov relocates to a small house in the countryside to photograph forest ants in beautiful and surreal settings reminiscent of a fairy tale. He shared, “When I had children and started reading fairy tales to them, I realized that I had never read fairy tales as a child. I decided to ‘make up’ for myself and began creating my own fairy tales.”
Pavlov does not use any digital effects in his photography series. To capture close-up shots of the ants at work, he employs a macro lens with a high magnification ratio.
