American tech billionaire Bill Gates predicts that the future will be entirely dependent on digital information transmitted through the Internet, rather than optical storage devices or hard drives.
“High-definition DVD formats will only be a last resort for data and multimedia content storage,” asserted Microsoft’s chief architect.
This viewpoint aligns with the analysis results of many technology experts regarding the trend of changing how computers are used. People will store data and programs on the Internet instead of on hard drives, allowing them to access files and applications from anywhere, anytime they need.
On the path toward such a future, Gates believes the role of software engineers is the most crucial. “The next decade will be a brilliant era for software and services,” he stated. “The number of software professionals will become extremely scarce and unable to meet the demand. Microsoft is shifting its focus to seek talent from schools. The Internet is also the largest information bridge to students in developing regions.”
On average, Microsoft hires an additional 1,000 employees each year, and they recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of the company’s founding.
