Statistics from Ha Tinh General Hospital: In September and the first half of October, more than 300 patients were treated, with 67% being children diagnosed with pneumonia. There have been dozens of child fatalities due to pneumonia.
The Pediatric Department of the hospital has 50 beds, which are insufficient, forcing some children to lie in the hallway. The majority of patients are infants under one year old who arrive in critical condition due to pneumonia. Dr. Nguyen Tri Quy, Head of the Pediatric Department, stated:
The unusual weather changes and families’ negligence in keeping their children warm have led to increased susceptibility to infections and bacterial infections among children with weak immune systems. On some days, the Pediatric Department admits over 80 cases, with patients arriving in critical condition.
Given the high risk of mortality among pneumonia patients, Ha Tinh General Hospital advises district health centers and communal health stations to promptly refer severe pneumonia cases to higher-level facilities as soon as they are identified.
