On October 17, the United States and India signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement in the field of science and technology, aiming to strengthen and expand the relationship between the two countries.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Indian Minister of Science and Technology Kapil Sibal attended the signing ceremony.
In her remarks at the ceremony, Rice described this partnership as a “vivid testament to the rapidly developing bilateral relationship between the United States and India.” Minister Sibal also referred to the agreement as “an important milestone.”
U.S. State Department officials indicated that this agreement would enhance and strengthen the scientific and technological capabilities of both nations, foster relationships, and promote collaboration among scientists and researchers.
For the first time, the agreement also establishes terms regarding intellectual property rights and other necessary provisions for research cooperation between the two governments, private researchers, and research institutes.
