A study on a new energy source known as combustible ice has been conducted by Chinese scientists in Guangzhou on November 13th.
The scientists reported that the Southern Continental Slope of the South China Sea is the best location for drilling this new energy source. Extraction work is set to begin next year.
Combustible ice is a type of gas hydrate. This natural compound arises from the interaction between natural gas and water and has been discovered in the last two decades. This compound has the potential to replace oil, coal, or carbon. The total amount of organic carbon in combustible ice is twice that found in reserves of coal, oil, and natural gas combined.
According to the plan, China will select the best area near the South China Sea next year for drilling combustible ice after conducting a comprehensive assessment study.
