The method of torture that leads to death has been used for a long time by the Romans. It wasn’t until the 17th century that this method involving rats was utilized once again.
Rat Torture – a form of torture using rats.
In this gruesome method, a bucket filled with starving rats is tightly secured to the victim’s abdomen. The bucket is then heated. The rats inside become extremely panicked and frantically seek a way to escape. And guess what? Desperate to escape the heat, the rats begin to burrow through the only soft surface they can find at that moment: the flesh of the victim. With sharp claws and teeth, the rats quickly gnaw through the victim’s flesh, causing excruciating pain and horror. Naturally, death is inevitable.
According to some historical records, this form of torture was used in the 17th century during a rebellion in the Netherlands. The leader Diederik Sonay employed it against captured prisoners. This method of torture was also reported to have been used in the late 20th century.
Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet was accused of using rat torture against political opponents during his regime.
