One of the most famous paintings in the world, the “Mona Lisa” is believed to hold many unexpected secrets.
With his artistic talent and contributions to the field of science, Leonardo da Vinci is often referred to by modern scholars as the “most perfect representative of the Renaissance”, a unique polymath in human history.

Among the masterpieces created by the Italian maestro, the “Mona Lisa” stands out as one of his most iconic works, remaining an invaluable masterpiece to this day.
Not only famous for its painting technique, the smile of the Mona Lisa has become the subject of study for many experts due to its mystery. Scholars believe that Mona Lisa’s smile contains 83% happiness, 9% disgust, 6% fear, and 2% anger.
However, beyond its mystery, researchers using advanced technology to magnify the painting 400 times have also discovered three secrets that have been concealed within the artwork for many years.
The painting holds many little-known secrets.
The first secret is hidden beneath the background of the painting. To the naked eye, one can only see the scenic mountains and rivers behind Mona Lisa. However, upon magnification, researchers believe they have identified the shapes of four animals hidden in the background: a gibbon, a lion, a buffalo, and a snake. An artist named Ron Picinello has suggested that these four animals symbolize envy and evil. At the same time, Mona Lisa’s curved right hand suggests a disregard for good over evil.
The second mystery discovered after magnifying the painting is the hidden face of a woman behind Mona Lisa’s face. Due to its special position and the colors surrounding it, this detail is very difficult to recognize. Researchers believe that compared to Mona Lisa, this face is significantly smaller overall. After comparison, it is suggested that this woman may very well be Da Vinci’s mother, as she bears a striking resemblance to him.

As for the third secret, it appears that Mona Lisa in the painting lacks eyebrows and eyelashes. Upon extensive magnification of the painting, two letters were discovered in her right eye, possibly “LV,” believed to be the initials of Leonardo da Vinci.
After these three secrets were revealed, numerous debates regarding the painting erupted. These hypotheses have contributed to increasing public interest in the artwork. However, the only person who could verify these hypotheses is indeed Leonardo da Vinci himself.
