Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has recently approved the proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to temporarily suspend the import of pigs and pig products from China. Currently, dozens of individuals in the country have died due to bacterial infections linked to this livestock.
According to Official Letter No. 5966, the Deputy Prime Minister has instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to collaborate with relevant ministries, local authorities, and Chinese counterparts to closely monitor the transportation of animals and animal products across the border between the two countries. This is aimed at gradually controlling and eradicating dangerous animal diseases.
The outbreak of the pig disease first emerged in June in Sichuan, China. Most of the infected farmers had either slaughtered or handled pig meat. Currently, the country has reported over 40 fatalities due to porcine bacterial disease, with hundreds more infected.
