According to Dr. Nguyen Forton Guillaume Ngoc Kim, Director of the DIAG Cardiovascular and Metabolic Center, approximately 40% of Vietnamese patients suffer from three syndromes simultaneously: diabetes, digestive disorders, and hypertension.

“The syndromes related to metabolic disorders are primarily due to an imbalanced diet” remarked Dr. Nguyen Forton Guillaume Ngoc Kim. |
The prevalence of these diseases is higher than in other countries. In European countries, the incidence of these syndromes is lower than 30%.
According to Dr. Forton Guillaume, one of the main causes leading to these syndromes is the dietary habits of the Vietnamese people.
Excessive Use of Seasonings…
The fat in the human body comprises two essential components: cholesterol and triglycerides. Elevated levels of triglycerides often stem from alcohol consumption and smoking. Over time, blood cholesterol levels will naturally increase with age and are heavily influenced by dietary habits.
“In their daily diet, Vietnamese people use too much seasoning, especially salt and sugar. Moreover, due to genetic factors, the bodies of Vietnamese people produce higher cholesterol levels compared to other countries” Dr. Forton Guillaume noted.
Furthermore, it is not solely excessive eating that leads to metabolic disorders; sometimes an imbalanced diet can also significantly cause various metabolic issues. These disorders include diabetes, thyroid diseases, lipid metabolism disorders (elevated triglycerides or cholesterol in the blood), excess uric acid in the blood (gout), and obesity.
Foods high in sugar, meat, and alcohol, particularly saturated fats, accumulate in our bodies and gradually settle in the blood vessels over time. The arteries lose their elasticity and become thicker. This condition is commonly referred to as atherosclerosis, leading to blood vessel blockages, complications related to the brain, skin, cardiovascular issues, and aesthetic concerns.
Obesity is also one of the leading causes of numerous respiratory problems, heart rhythm disorders, and sleep disturbances (such as sleep apnea).
Regular Health Check-ups….

Regular health check-ups can help prevent complications and reduce treatment costs. |
“Most Vietnamese people have little concept of regular health check-ups. As a result, most diseases are detected at a stage that is very difficult to treat” Dr. Forton Guillaume expressed concern.
Health check-ups aim to detect metabolic disorder syndromes early. Over time, these disorders affect the arteries as well as most organs in the body, including the heart, brain, liver, pancreas, kidneys, and eyes. The risk of cardiovascular diseases increases two to three times.
When symptoms develop slowly and health risks remain minimal, metabolic disorders can be treated. Treatment costs may sometimes be insignificant, involving medication combined with dietary adjustments and exercise.
