According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, as of today (September 20), a cold air mass is moving down from the North.
It is forecasted that around the night of September 21 and early morning of September 22, this cold air mass will affect the northeastern region, followed by most of the northwestern area and some places in the North Central region. Winds will shift to the northeast at level 3 inland and level 4-5 along the coast.

On September 22-23, the weather in the North and Thanh Hóa will cool down, with some mountainous areas experiencing colder temperatures. During this cold wave, the lowest temperatures in the North and Thanh Hóa will generally range from 20-23 degrees Celsius, with some mountainous areas dropping below 19 degrees Celsius.
In maritime weather, starting early morning on September 22, the northeastern Gulf of Tonkin will see increasing winds up to level 6, at times reaching level 7, with gusts up to level 8; the sea will be rough with waves rising between 1.5-2.5 meters.
Due to the influence of the cold air mass, from early morning on September 22 to September 23, moderate to heavy rain is expected in the midlands, northern delta, and coastal areas from Thanh Hóa to Quảng Bình, with localized heavy rain and thunderstorms producing rainfall amounts typically between 50-150mm, and some areas exceeding 200mm.
Thunderstorms may bring strong winds, lightning, hail, and gusts.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms accompanied by phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong winds could impact agricultural production, cause trees to fall, damage houses, transportation infrastructure, and other facilities.
Heavy rainfall is likely to lead to flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes.
Strong winds and large waves at sea may affect ship operations and other activities.
