According to the official website of the Guinness World Records, Centauri Honey from Turkey is the most expensive honey in the world.
This honey is different from the regular honey we buy in the market. Each kilogram of honey is priced at 10,000 Euros, equivalent to 271 million VND.
Centauri Honey recently took to Instagram to share the world record news, stating, “The more important reward is that ‘everyone is healthier’ and ‘thank you’ from all around the world.”
This expensive honey can only be harvested once a year.
If we follow the media coverage, this is a rare type of honey characterized by its dark color and strong bitter taste. It is harvested once a year from within caves.
According to a statement from the GWR website, beekeepers follow a special process to ensure the production of the highest quality honey. The statement reads: “This honey is excavated (as the name suggests) from a cave located 2,500 meters above sea level, far from human habitation and any other bee colonies.” Due to its high-altitude location, honey harvesting is challenging, and only the best products are collected.
The altitude makes the honey production process extremely difficult, especially in caring for the bees to ensure the best quality.
Unlike other types of honey, this expensive honey can only be harvested once a year. Afterwards, samples of the harvested honey are sent to the Turkish Food Institute’s Science Council for quality verification.
Interestingly, the bees here are fed with medicinal plants grown around the caves, which are rich in magnesium, potassium, phenols, flavonoids, and antioxidants. This makes the honey healthy and nutrient-rich, with a slightly bitter taste. Furthermore, Centauri Honey withstands cold weather and high altitudes.
Information about Centauri Honey is strictly protected as a national secret.
Ahmet Eren Cakir, the founder of Centauri Honey, stated: “This honey cannot be widely sold in markets or stores because the yield never reaches tons. Some consider it an expensive honey; I personally call it a treasure of the world.”
Ahmet Eren Cakir added: “Because Centauri Honey has a high phenol and antioxidant content, it has wonderful effects on overall health and specifically on anti-aging. I do not claim it can cure cancer, but it may boost the immune system. I have customers from all over the world who have called to thank me after noticing health benefits.”
Despite its exorbitant price, orders continue to flood in, indicating a strong demand for this honey, even for some special varieties like “Centauri Diamond,” where the waiting time for delivery can extend for years.
