Hitachi recently showcased its innovative personal identification technology based on hand or finger vein scanning at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) held in Tunisia. The company has also integrated this security system into its Flora line of laptops.
This technology, developed by Hitachi since 2000, has been implemented in various applications such as ATM systems in financial institutions and access points, and now, PCs. When in use, a beam of light penetrates the finger to measure and compare vein patterns.
The Japanese electronics company also introduced “grip-type” finger vein authentication technology, which allows a person to simply touch a handle on a door. The system instantly recognizes the individual and unlocks the door to a room, home, or car. This technology elevates security techniques to a new level, providing maximum convenience by eliminating the need for keys when leaving home.
Peter Jones, Hitachi’s Business Director in Europe, stated: “Vein pattern authentication is the most accurate biometric security method and has proven successful in numerous applications in Japan. We will continue to expand this technology worldwide.“
