Traditional blackboards in classrooms are quickly being replaced by a more advanced type known as smart boards. This high-tech board allows users to select pre-installed programs by simply touching icons on the board.
Smart boards display computer images through PowerPoint software and can easily switch to text mode using Microsoft Word. Students can also write on this type of board with chalk. Another convenience is that it can remember the content or lessons written on the board and print them out for students who missed that class. However, the cost of these boards is not cheap, approximately $1,100 each. To use the smart board, you also need to purchase a projector and a computer. Thus, the total investment for a complete smart board system would be around $3,500. (News-herald)
