Environmental sanitation in livestock farms will help prevent avian influenza. |
The National Steering Committee on Clean Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, together with the Institute of Science and Technology, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, recently organized a training course on environmental protection and sustainable livestock development in Hanoi.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the avian influenza epidemic in Vietnam is currently at threat level 3 out of 6, with 25 provinces and cities reporting outbreaks in poultry. The environmental pollution situation in rural areas, especially in craft villages and concentrated livestock farming zones, is very serious. This is a significant factor contributing to diseases, particularly the ongoing avian influenza outbreak.
Mr. Pham Khoi Nguyen, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee on Clean Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, stated that environmental sanitation in livestock farms can prevent avian influenza. Mr. Nguyen emphasized that if everyone works together to address environmental sanitation in livestock farming, it would help stop the avian influenza epidemic currently occurring in Vietnam.
During the aforementioned course, participants listened to experts discuss planning and managing the environment in the development of craft villages, industrial clusters, and concentrated livestock farms; building and implementing programs to improve the polluted environment in craft villages…
Additionally, experts proposed several scientifically-based issues aimed at reorganizing and restructuring the livestock industry, the slaughtering system, and the trade of livestock and poultry, along with appropriate support policies for farmers to mobilize the entire community to effectively participate in avian influenza prevention.
