The Japanese construction company Obayashi Corporation has announced the development of a glass wall capable of reducing earthquake shock by 30%. This innovative wall also allows for a reduction in the minimum thickness of walls in buildings.
The glass wall incorporates a resilient material that absorbs vibrations. Obayashi Corporation conducted tests demonstrating that the wall can decrease the intensity of a level 6 earthquake to a level 5 (with level 7 being the highest) based not on scientific measurements, but on the perceptions of residents during an earthquake. No cracks appeared on the glass.
Further testing will continue before this product is launched in the market to ensure its effectiveness.
