The Sabin Vaccine Production Science Center aims to ensure a production capacity of 7.5 million doses of measles vaccine per year by 2010; it will also produce inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) at a rate of 1 million doses per year and Rota vaccine for children’s diarrheal prevention, reaching 10 million doses per year, all in compliance with the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 2010.
The Ministry of Health’s objective is to build and develop the Sabin Vaccine Production Science Center into a research and production hub for vaccines and medical biological products that meet GMP standards; this will ensure a sufficient supply of polio and measles vaccines for the national expanded immunization program, with an aim towards exporting, ultimately contributing to the protection, care, and improvement of public health.
Additionally, the center will produce a range of high-quality diagnostic biological products and will develop an industrial-scale clean macaque colony, maintaining a stable population of 700 to 1,000 monkeys to provide qualified monkeys for vaccine production and research.
