Ecology Coating Inc. (USA) has developed a chemical for producing waterproof paper that is up to 500 times cheaper than similar types of paper.
The new material is a nano-coating that forms a waterproof membrane around each fiber of the paper. This substance does not create a thick layer on the surface, ensuring that the characteristic surface properties of the paper types remain unchanged.
Since the paper surface does not become glossy after treatment, users can easily write on it with any type of pen and ink. The manufacturing process is exceptionally simple. Any type of paper can be transformed into waterproof paper by soaking it in the coating solution. This new technology is expected to be widely adopted in 2006.
