According to Nguyen Bao Chau, a resident of Vinh City, around 8 AM this morning, the city’s sky began to show clouds with unusual shapes. The long, continuous strips of clouds created a rare sight.
“I have lived in Vinh for decades, but I have never seen such a strange natural phenomenon. Soon after, heavy rain began to pour down accompanied by enormous black clouds,” Chau shared.
Like Chau, many residents of Vinh expressed their amazement at the bizarre shapes of the clouds compared to what they typically see.
Many reported that the dark clouds with peculiar shapes appearing before the storm raised their concerns about the possibility of extreme weather.
According to Le Duc Cuong, Deputy Director of the North Central Region Meteorological and Hydrological Station, this phenomenon is referred to as the distant cloud band of a storm, which typically appears before or after a storm makes landfall.
“This is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the tail of the storm sweeps through, creating a cloud band stretching from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh. This phenomenon is also a sign of a strong storm. The cloud band can cause heavy rain, tornadoes, and lightning in the affected areas,” Cuong explained.
