This morning (August 30), heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by frequent thunderstorms surprised many residents in several northern provinces.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from around midnight to 5 AM on August 30, various northern provinces experienced rain, with some areas recording very heavy rainfall, such as Xuân Minh (Hà Giang) 126mm, Quân Chu 206mm (Thái Nguyên), Âu Lâu (Yên Bái) 78mm, Bản Cầm (Lào Cai) 83mm, and Tân Thanh (Tuyên Quang) 97mm…

The heavy downpour early this morning was accompanied by continuous lightning across many northern provinces. Many residents shared their reactions to this weather phenomenon on social media.
Statistics from the National Hydro-Meteorological Network Center (General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology) indicated that between 4 AM and 7 AM today, the lightning detection network recorded thousands of lightning strikes, both on land and at sea, around Vietnam.
Real-time maps showed that the lightning strikes early this morning were primarily concentrated in the northern region.
From 4 AM to 5 AM, approximately 1,000 to 1,400 lightning strikes occurred every 10 minutes. During this period, the lightning was concentrated in the provinces of Thái Nguyên, Tuyên Quang, Yên Bái, Vĩnh Phúc, Phú Thọ, Nam Định, and Thái Bình.
From 5:50 AM to 6:50 AM, there was an average of 500 to 800 lightning strikes every 10 minutes, predominantly in Phú Thọ, Yên Bái, and coastal areas of the Northern Delta.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that this morning, the northern provinces will continue to experience rain, with accumulated rainfall typically ranging from 20-40mm, and some areas exceeding 90mm.
There is a risk of flash floods in small rivers and streams, as well as landslides on slopes in several districts of Lai Châu, Sơn La, Lào Cai, Yên Bái, Hà Giang, Tuyên Quang, Phú Thọ, Vĩnh Phúc, and Thái Nguyên.
The meteorological agency warns that in the evening and night of August 30, the northern region, along with Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, the Central Highlands, and the southern region, will experience showers and thunderstorms, with localized heavy rain expected in the evening and night, with rainfall from 20-40mm and some areas exceeding 90mm.
In the South Central Coast region, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible, with localized heavy rainfall from 10-30mm, and some areas exceeding 70mm.
During thunderstorms, there is a likelihood of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rain may cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban settings, flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes.
