In 2005, the world witnessed remarkable advancements in high-tech science, producing many fascinating and human-centered inventions. The prestigious American technology magazine selected the most interesting technological innovations of 2005.
1. Smart Pot
Chris Aram, a young British chef and former student at the Royal College of Art in London, invented a smart device called Sensiboil that automates the boiling process, ensuring pots do not burn.
When the soup pot begins to boil, this device automatically reduces the stove’s temperature. If there is no pot on the stove or the soup pot is empty, the device will turn off the stove automatically.
Sensiboil is very small, attaches to the stove’s surface, and does not interfere with cooking.
2. Stock Price Alert Shoes
Manufacturers at Australia’s National ICT Center successfully created a type of shoe that alerts the wearer about stock price fluctuations.
The team used four vibration sets from mobile phones attached to the shoes, linked to the Australian stock exchange. When stock prices rise or fall, the computer processes the information and signals by activating the vibration sets in the shoes.
Besides stock price alerts, this device can also be used to report soccer scores. The research team stated that they could replace the vibration alerts with other notification devices based on temperature or even different scents.
3. Super Alarm Clock
Clocky is the new super alarm clock that hit the American market.
Clocky emits very loud sounds, and if its owner turns it off after the first ring, Clocky will roll away on wheels to another location and continue to make annoying sounds.
This ensures that you must get out of bed to turn off Clocky, waking you up completely.
4. Temperature-Controlled Blanket
Renowned for its life-enhancing electronic devices, Sony introduced a temperature-regulating blanket.
With tiny electronic devices, thermometers for temperature monitoring, and timers, this special blanket can adjust its temperature according to the body’s biological rhythms at different times, helping you fall asleep easily and enjoy deeper sleep.
This smart blanket is sold at a price of $175 each.
5. Fingerprint-Recognizing Computer
Microsoft recently introduced a new peripheral device for computers featuring fingerprint recognition to replace traditional passwords.
This keyboard incorporates a fingerprint recognition device, allowing computer users to use their unique biometric data.
With an optical fingerprint recognition device connected via Bluetooth, users can now temporarily forget their hard-to-remember passwords while still ensuring data security.
6. Weather Forecasting Clothespins
Oliver MaCathy, a student at Birmingham University in England, created a smart clothespin capable of accurately forecasting rain within an hour.
The clothespin holder contains a sensor to detect changes in air pressure and sends electronic signals to the metal piece on each clothespin.
If rain is expected within the next hour, the clothespin will automatically lock, preventing you from hanging out your laundry.
7. Dog-Friendly Car
At a recent auto show in Japan, Honda launched a special car named Wow. This vehicle is a paradise for pet dogs and an indispensable choice for dog owners.
The car features a specially designed compartment for dogs, complete with seatbelts and music headphones. Additionally, it has sliding doors for easy access for dogs.
8. Electronic Paper
Fujitsu from Japan successfully developed electronic paper capable of preserving images with vibrant colors and does not distort when bent or folded.
This electronic paper can memorize images and continuously change what is displayed on its surface.
Thus, this type of paper is ideal for advertising on public transport as it can be frequently updated with new images without distortion from different angles.
9. Talking Roses
The American company Speaking Roses has invented technology that can print images or messages on rose petals, helping people express their feelings for one another.
These “talking roses” are currently very popular among young people.
10. Hug Pillow for Lonely Women
The Japanese company Kameo launched a special pillow called “Your Boyfriend’s Arm.”
This hug pillow designed for single women resembles a strong male arm.
This pillow is sold in the Japanese market for $80, and Kameo plans to release a “Girlfriend’s Arm” pillow for men soon.
