On December 13, Mr. Chu Quang Dược, Deputy Director of the National Environmental Protection Agency of China (SEPA), announced that the country has begun implementing a program to assess the impacts of pollution in the Tùng Hoa River.
A task force comprising 14 teams has been assigned to prepare a plan to address issues such as the movement and transformation of contaminated water flow, the extraction of accumulated pollutants, and the evaluation of pollution levels.
The explosion at a chemical plant in Jilin Province on November 13 resulted in approximately 100 tons of benzene and nitrobenzene (substances potentially carcinogenic to humans) spilling into the Tùng Hoa River, one of the longest rivers in China, which provides drinking water for millions of people.
