Experts believe that a new influenza pandemic is inevitable |
The company reported positive responses from 300 volunteers who received the vaccine in a trial, laying the groundwork for further in-depth research and testing.
Scientists around the world are currently studying a vaccine against the H5N1 avian influenza virus. They are considering the possibility that this virus could mutate into a deadly strain capable of spreading globally.
Currently, it is not possible to administer a vaccine before a pandemic starts, as the vaccine must match the specific strain of the influenza virus, which remains uncertain as to when it will occur.
Nevertheless, Sanofi Pasteur, a vaccine division of the giant pharmaceutical company Sanofi Aventis, remains hopeful about developing a practical vaccine capable of combating avian influenza outbreaks worldwide.
