A critical patch for Microsoft’s operating system released in December has caused issues for users testing Internet Explorer 7.
Jeremy Dallman, the project manager for Internet Explorer security, stated that they have received numerous reports from customers regarding unusual behavior of the browser after installing the latest update. For instance, Internet Explorer crashes upon opening, the connection shows a blank page, or multiple windows open simultaneously each time the browser is started.
Dallman mentioned that Internet Explorer 7 is still in the testing phase, and the glitches occur only when it is installed alongside Internet Explorer 6. In such cases, the beta version of the new browser creates a non-standard registry key in the Windows Registry, which is the core of the operating system that stores computer settings. Simply deleting this key will resolve all issues.
The December update from Microsoft includes a patch for a security vulnerability in Windows that could be exploited to launch online attacks against browser users, along with three other bugs.
