With a black rectangular design, the bag is covered with solar panels. These panels resemble a very thin film, separated by white lines. The handle is made of transparent plastic.
The bag, designed by Hynek, is intended to power any small device that uses a USB port, including mobile phones, personal music players, GPS devices, voice recorders, and compact cameras. Additionally, the bag features padding to protect its contents as well as a zipper for secure closure.
Professor Mark Bryden predicts that this concept could be applied to other types of portable items. There are already backpacks that convert solar energy into electricity, while another type generates electricity through the user’s movement.
Hynek has also incorporated this technology into a hat. He aims to sell this handbag to environmentally-conscious consumers. Although the materials used for the bag are quite expensive, he hopes to keep the retail price under $300.
