The giant chicken known as Brahma is recognized worldwide as the “King of Chickens” due to its impressive weight ranging from 9kg to 18kg for roosters and 7kg for hens.
Chickens are perhaps the most widely domesticated and raised poultry species around the globe. There are various reasons why people raise chickens: for eggs, meat, or simply to enjoy watching chicks grow. For some, raising chickens is a hobby, while for others, it is a means of livelihood.
According to data from the Britannica Encyclopedia, there are about 60 different chicken breeds worldwide. These breeds are primarily medium-sized and mainly descended from the wild red junglefowl (scientific name: Gallus gallus, family Phasianidae, order Galliformes) of India.
However, the natural world is not without its oddities. Among chickens that stand under 70 cm tall and weigh an average of 2.6 kg, there are still giant breeds with a majestic and imposing appearance. One of these is the giant Brahma chicken, dubbed the “King of Chickens.”
With feathers covering its body all the way down to its toes, it resembles a Tibetan Mastiff more than a chicken.

Brahma chickens adapt well to the harshest weather, have strong resistance, and are relatively disease-free. For decades, many countries around the world have vied for this rare breed, each claiming it as a national treasure. Countries like India, Bangladesh, Turkey, China, Russia, the United States, and eventually England have all sought after this breed.
Due to its rarity, Brahma chicken owners believe it brings them good luck.
In 1852, this breed was personally raised by Queen Victoria of England, who later shared it with British aristocrats for breeding. Because it is a rare breed, Brahma chicken owners believe it brings them good fortune, strength, luxury, wealth, and power. Today, this breed has made its way to Vietnam.
This breed has now arrived in Vietnam.
