In the past 50 days, Vietnam has not reported any cases of H5N1 avian influenza in humans. However, with the Lunar New Year approaching, there remains a potential risk of an influenza outbreak… This is the assessment from the National Steering Committee for the prevention of acute respiratory infections caused by the virus.

During a meeting of the National Steering Committee for the prevention of acute respiratory infections caused by the virus on January 4, Professor Hoàng Thủy Long, Deputy Head of the Committee, stated: Since November 14, 2005, the country has not recorded any cases of H5N1 avian influenza in humans.
According to the Committee, the avian influenza outbreak is gradually being controlled. However, the potential risk of the disease still exists, especially during the Lunar New Year.
Explaining this concern, Professor Hoàng Thủy Long noted that during the Lunar New Year, the movement of poultry from one region to another is quite high. People, due to complacency, continue to consume poultry meat in large quantities without distinguishing between “clean meat” and uninspected meat.
Additionally, there is a possibility that quarantine labels may be forged.
It is known that during the recent regular meeting of the Government on avian influenza and H5N1 in humans, the Prime Minister directed a focus on controlling the outbreak until the end of the first quarter of 2006 to eliminate all pathogens. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is to complete the vaccination against avian influenza according to the schedule.
