“Leap Ahead” Replaces “Intel Inside” |
Intel has officially launched the dual-core processor codenamed Sossaman – a chip from the energy-efficient Xeon DP product line designed for server applications.
The Sossaman chip operates at a clock speed of 3GHz, equipped with a 2MB L2 cache and supports an 800MHz Front Side Bus (FSB). Although Sossaman is believed to be manufactured using 65-nanometer technology, Intel categorizes it among products produced using 90-nanometer technology. The reference price for Sossaman is $519.
If the schedule for implementing 65-nanometer manufacturing technology is followed, the Dempsey chip – a dual-core energy-efficient Xeon DP chip utilizing 65-nanometer technology – will be the next to launch.
The Xeon DP chip line is developed based on the technology platform of the Pentium M. This initiative aims to apply energy-saving technology from the Pentium M chips, which are specifically designed for laptops, to products intended for PCs and servers.
