On the afternoon of November 7, Deputy Minister of Health Trinh Quan Huan confirmed that Vietnam has detected its first positive case of H5N1 in this outbreak season.
This case involves a 35-year-old man from O Cho Dua Ward, Dong Da District, Hanoi. The patient was admitted to the Institute of Tropical Medicine on October 26 with symptoms of fever, shortness of breath, and chest tightness, and unfortunately passed away on October 29. Samples from the patient were sent to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for testing, and the results confirmed a positive H5N1 diagnosis.
According to the patient’s family, on October 16, they purchased chickens at Van Ho Market for a meal. Approximately 10 people shared the chicken during that meal, and currently, the other individuals remain healthy.
Immediately following the detection of this case, authorities conducted disinfection and decontamination in the area and are closely monitoring the situation.
Thus, since the most recent case reported on July 24, Vietnam has identified a new H5N1 case after three months.
