According to the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), all 21 provinces have now gone 21 days without an outbreak. Currently, there are no communes, districts, or provinces in the country with avian influenza outbreaks.

The provinces that have gone 21 days without an outbreak include Bac Giang, Hoa Binh, Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Long An, Hai Duong, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Bac Kan, Vinh Phuc, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Son La, Quang Ninh, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Quang Tri, Cao Bang, and Ha Giang.
The provinces of Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Phu Tho, Thai Binh, Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Bac Ninh, and Hoa Binh have declared the end of avian influenza.
Since October 1, 2005, the total number of poultry culled has reached nearly 4 million (including poultry culled in urban areas), of which 1.34 million were chickens and 2.14 million were ducks.
The vaccination process, involving two doses of vaccine, has been completed in most provinces and cities across the country. The total number of poultry vaccinated has reached 244.3 million; among them, 166.2 million were chickens and 78.1 million were ducks.
Earlier, during a government meeting on avian influenza, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem stated that although the outbreak is currently under control, ministries, sectors, and localities must continue to enhance propaganda efforts, organize the consumption of poultry and poultry products that have been quarantined; and focus on promoting the nationwide action month for hygiene, disinfection, and sterilization from January 6 to February 6.
Regarding disease prevention for humans, the Ministry of Health needs to strengthen disease surveillance; expedite the procurement of medicines, chemicals, materials, and emergency equipment to be distributed to grassroots healthcare facilities; and organize training on disease response and disseminate the treatment protocols for influenza A (H5N1) to community healthcare staff.
From now until the Lunar New Year, three task forces will be established, jointly led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Trade, in coordination with relevant ministries and sectors to inspect the consumption and slaughtering of poultry in three major cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang.
