Two Young Men Catch a Giant Albino Catfish Measuring 2.31 Meters After a 20-Minute Struggle
Carlos Ballarín and Mario Vallejo are residents of the Zaragoza neighborhood, Movera, Spain. Like many weekend mornings, on a Saturday, both went fishing in search of giant catfish on the Ebro River.
On that day, they decided to try a new spot located on the outskirts of the Aragonese capital, the exact location of which they did not disclose to avoid attracting curious onlookers.
What began as a typical day turned pivotal after they caught “two or three small catfish.” The moment of truth arrived when they hooked a huge albino catfish.

“After 20 minutes of battling with the monster, we managed to subdue it,” Carlos said.
The fish measured 2.31 meters long. Although they couldn’t accurately weigh the fish, they estimated it weighed around 80 or 90 kg. After measuring, both decided to release the giant catfish back into the river.
Carlos mentioned: “After searching online, we found that this fish could reach sizes in the top 5 of the largest white catfish species in the world.” Carlos expressed regret that they couldn’t verify this since they “didn’t have time to call anyone.”
Both young men were thrilled to catch such a unique fish. “Sometimes we catch large catfish, but we’ve never caught an albino one,” Carlos happily remarked.

The Catfish (Silurus Glanis) is a large freshwater predatory fish native to Central and Eastern Europe, introduced into the Ebro Basin in the 1970s through the Mequinenza reservoir.
Fishing for it has become a tourist attraction for many enthusiasts of this type of fishing, as finding fish measuring 2.5 meters is quite unusual.
