Players will quickly learn about avian influenza, the H5N1 virus, and how to prevent and control the disease. According to Xinhua News Agency, this “avian flu” card deck is now available in Shanxi Province. It is an initiative from a hospital in Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province.
The cards are considered an effective means of disseminating information to seasonal laborers—over 140 million individuals—who are often busy and lack time to access information through traditional media. Additionally, playing cards is a popular pastime for many Chinese people, especially during travel.
Currently, China, the world’s largest poultry producer, has reported 7 human cases of avian influenza, with 3 fatalities. More than 30 outbreaks in poultry have occurred since the beginning of 2005. However, experts believe that general awareness about the epidemic remains weak, particularly in rural areas.
