Recently, a video posted on social media showing thousands of fish “dancing” on a stretch of river has captivated many viewers.
According to reports, this unusual phenomenon was captured by a man living in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China, who shared it on social media.
School of fish ‘dancing’ on the river in China.
This man stated: “In recent days, there has been a lot of rain in the area, and the fish might have overflowed from large ponds into the river. They suddenly leaped to the surface, causing a commotion along the river.”
“This phenomenon lasted about 30 minutes, and I was truly fortunate to witness this magnificent scene,” he added.
Meteorology experts explain that the rising water levels may have destroyed the fish’s usual habitats, forcing them to search for new environments.
Additionally, the rainwater washed away a large amount of sediment and debris, causing the water to become murky and limiting sunlight penetration. This turbidity hinders the photosynthesis process in aquatic plants, reducing the oxygen levels in the water. Faced with severe oxygen deficiency, the fish had to leap out of the water to breathe directly from the air.
This collective behavior is not an isolated phenomenon but a survival strategy that fish use to cope with specific environmental changes. It allows them to deal with crises and increase their chances of survival.
