Exercise Regimens Enhance Longevity for the Elderly |
Currently, the average life expectancy of Vietnamese people has reached 71.3 years. This figure is nearly double that of 1945, when the average lifespan was just 38 years.
According to the Ministry of Health, with the current average life expectancy, Vietnam has achieved the Millennium Development Goal (to increase life expectancy to 71 years by 2010) ahead of schedule. Compared to 1998, the average lifespan of Vietnamese people has increased by over 6 years. The rapid development of medical technology and healthcare services has been a crucial factor contributing to this improvement.
However, in comparison to other countries in the region, the life expectancy of Vietnamese people remains relatively “modest.” Currently, it is just approaching the levels achieved by Malaysia and Thailand two years ago (72 years). Since 2003, the people of Brunei have had an average life expectancy of 76 years, while Singaporeans live to an average of 77 years.
When compared to the “champion” Japan, Vietnam’s longevity appears even less impressive. As early as 2001, women in Japan had an average life expectancy of approximately 85 years, while men lived to an average of 78 years.
