International astronomers are preparing to install the largest telescope in the world, which can “see” 100 times better than the Hubble Space Telescope. The new telescope, known as the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT), will provide a deeper insight into the early stages of the universe’s formation.
This telescope is the first of a new generation of giant telescopes, located on Earth as part of a project called the Giant Segmented Mirror Telescope (GSMT).
Due to its enormous size, the TMT will be housed in an observatory that is as large as a football field, designed in the shape of an eye.
