A Boeing 777 Worldliner has taken off from Hong Kong on a 23-hour flight to London (United Kingdom)…
Boeing, which is fiercely competing with rival Airbus in the profitable long-haul aircraft market, announced that a 777-200LR on November 9 flew east instead of the usual west across Russian skies. The flight began at 2:30 PM (GMT) and is expected to last 23 hours over a distance of more than 20,100 kilometers.
Lars Anderson, deputy program manager for the Boeing 777, stated: “Boeing intends to make aviation history. We are setting a new record for the longest non-stop flight for a commercial aircraft.” Anderson mentioned that the Worldliner could connect “any two cities on Earth.”
The aircraft in question is powered by General Electric engines, took off with a full fuel tank, and carried 35 individuals, including Boeing executives, journalists, some customers, and the flight crew.
The previous record was also held by a commercial flight operated by a Boeing 747-400 in 1989. This aircraft flew 17,000 kilometers non-stop from London (United Kingdom) to Sydney (Australia).
