F-Secure, a prominent security company, has promptly released a security patch addressing critical vulnerabilities discovered on January 19th across 18 of its antivirus programs.
The serious security flaw is found in the virus scanning feature, specifically in detecting malware from compressed files in ZIP and RAR formats. This vulnerability could potentially allow hackers to execute harmful code through ZIP or RAR files containing malicious programs, leading to a risk of buffer overflow for systems running both Windows and Linux.
This issue affects most F-Secure antivirus software versions from 2004 to 2006, including F-Secure Internet Security, F-Secure Anti-Virus, and F-Secure Personal Express v6.20 and earlier.
F-Secure advises users to promptly update their software with the latest security patch available for their systems. Detailed information and the update can be downloaded here.
