Mr. Tamás Ritter – Head of the Gedeon Richter LTD Representative Office in Vietnam – has recently reported on the issue of counterfeit medications in the market and provided guidance on how to distinguish genuine from fake emergency contraceptive pills, Postinor 2.
The counterfeit Postinor 2 pills are produced in China, packaged in Hanoi, and even bear fake import labels, making them very difficult to identify. According to Mr. Tamás Ritter, genuine Postinor 2 packaging is lighter in color, with sharp lot numbers, and the pills are thinner, leaving some space between the blister packs. In contrast, counterfeit blister packs are darker, with smudged lot numbers, and the pills are thicker, resulting in no space between the packs. Testing of 15 boxes revealed that the content of the counterfeit pills is inconsistent, with a high level of impurities, leading to lower contraceptive effectiveness.
Mr. Tamás Ritter also mentioned that counterfeit Postinor 2 is only available in the northern market, and authorities have been quick to detect it. The company has also informed consumers that there are several contraceptive medications on the market that mimic the industrial design of genuine Postinor 2, including Posinight, Postorose, Posinap, and Naphanor. If consumers do not carefully examine these products, they may easily confuse them with Postinor 2.
