According to the latest warning from Sophos, a Trojan program is rapidly spreading through email. Posing as the security company F-Secure based in Helsinki, this email comes with an attachment that carries various subject lines related to issues of interest to the recipient. The most common subject lines include “Firefox Browsing Problem,” “Mozilla Browsing Problem,” or “Website Browsing Problem.”
Of course, in this case, F-Secure is not involved and is merely an unwitting victim of cybercriminals. The company’s reputation has been exploited as a disguise for malicious software.
According to Sophos, once this Trojan infiltrates a computer, it will disable antivirus software and other security measures while simultaneously opening a backdoor for hackers to gain access to the system.
Moreover, opening the attachment allows hackers to deploy spyware, steal data, and potentially ruin the computer. The situation becomes even more dire as the time for the Kama Sutra worm’s anticipated global attack approaches.
