Thousands of villagers in Guizhou, China fled their homes after hearing a mysterious sound that caused panic, leading many to believe an earthquake was imminent, according to Express.
Specifically, the strange sound echoed throughout a village in China, causing many to run in fear. Some described the peculiar noise as resembling the roar of a dragon, while others likened it more to the growl of a tiger.
Thousands of residents rushed to the mountains after hearing the mysterious sound that frightened them.
Some believe that the sound could have originated from underground fault lines beneath the village, raising concerns that an earthquake might be on the way.
However, others argue that it was merely the cries of animals in the wild.
Ultimately, Guizhou officials dispatched teams of experts to investigate the area and clarify the mysterious sound that had caused widespread fear.
It turned out that the frightening sound was produced by the yellow-legged button quail.
Subsequent investigations by zoologists confirmed that the noise actually came from a small bird, slightly larger than a sparrow. This bird is known as the yellow-legged button quail.
Despite their small size, yellow-legged button quails have a loud and resonant call.
During the breeding season, the calls of yellow-legged button quails can be heard from distances of up to 100 meters.
Mr. Liu Fuqiong, a local teacher, stated that he had indeed witnessed such a loud call from the quail.
“It calls two or three times continuously every 6 or 7 minutes. The sound is very deep; I think it’s quite unusual,” Mr. Liu emphasized.
The director of the wildlife protection center in Guizhou also mentioned to reporters that similar sounds had been heard multiple times in the province.
“Residents in other areas of the province have heard similar sounds before. But they weren’t too concerned about it,” he said.
