While fishing at sea, a fisherman caught a gigantic stingray weighing up to 750 kg.
Subhash Sailan, a fisherman from Mangalore in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, India, returned to shore after catching a massive stingray weighing 750 kg. A crane was summoned to lift the fish onto a pickup truck.
Images of the colossal fish attracted the attention of many locals, who were visibly delighted. Several locals even recorded videos and took photos of the spectacle.
The caught fish is a giant Manta ray.
Speaking to The News Minute, Yathish Baikampady, former president of the Karnataka Coastal Fishermen’s Association, noted that such a large catch is neither too common nor extremely rare.
According to international marine conservation organizations, the giant Manta ray species has been declared endangered. Giant Manta rays face the greatest threat from commercial fishing activities.
Manta rays are not venomous and are completely harmless to humans. They can reach a wingspan of 7 meters and live for about 50 years. Experts indicate that injuries to a Manta ray’s eyes can become infected, potentially leading to blindness and even death.
