Are you often confused about how to rotate a page to landscape orientation in a document filled with text? Or do you find yourself reformatting the margins every time you create a new file, even when the margin sizes remain unchanged? In this guide, we will show you how to format page margins, rotate pages to landscape or portrait orientations.
v Formatting Text Margins
- Go to File and select Page Setup… (Alt + F U)
ð The Page Setup dialog box will appear.
- Select the Margins tab (Alt + M)
- Enter the margin sizes; if you haven’t changed the unit of measurement, the default is inches.
- Top: Top margin
- Bottom: Bottom margin
- Left: Left margin
- Right: Right margin
- Header: Page header
- Footer: Page footer
Typically, the Header and Footer sizes will remain unchanged, defaulting to 1.27 cm for A4 page format.
- R Mirror margins: Select this if you want to print double-sided with symmetrical margins on a single sheet of paper.
R 2 pages per sheet: Select this if you want to print one page on two sheets of paper.
- Apply to: Apply to:
- Whole document: Applies to the entire document
- This point forward: Applies to pages following the cursor position
- After resetting the margin parameters, if you want to set this margin format for future documents, click the Default… button and confirm with OK.
- Click OK
v Rotating Portrait and Landscape Pages
- Go to File and select Page Setup… (Alt + F U)
ð The Page Setup dialog box will appear.
- Select the Paper Size tab (Alt + S)
- For the Paper Size section, keep the Width and Height at default settings. You can adjust the Width and Height sizes, but be cautious as incorrect settings may lead to printed text being cut off.
- Orientation: Set the page orientation
- € Portrait: Portrait orientation
- € Landscape: Landscape orientation
- Apply to: Apply to:
- Whole document: Applies to the entire document
- This point forward: Applies to pages following the cursor position
- After resetting the margin parameters, if you want to set this margin format for future documents, click the Default… button and confirm with OK.
- Click OK
Tip: If you have a multi-page document and only wish to rotate the first page or a few pages in the middle:
- Place the cursor at the end of the last page before the one you want to rotate.
- Follow the steps to rotate the page to landscape. Note: Select This Point forward for the Apply to section. Result: All pages after the cursor position will be rotated to landscape.
- To revert to portrait orientation for the pages following, place the cursor at the end of the landscape page (before the page you want to rotate back). Then, perform the portrait page rotation, selecting This Point forward for the Apply to section as well.
- Use Ctrl + F2 (File Print Preview) to view the document before printing.
v Setting Different Headers and Footers for Odd and Even Pages
- Select the Layout tab (Alt + L)
- Check R Different odd and even. (Instructions for setting headers and footers will be provided in later sections)
- Click OK
v Removing Header and Footer from the First Page of the Document
- Select the Layout tab (Alt + L)
- Check R Different first page.
- Click OK
