On October 24, astronomers from Chile announced that in a research program focused on the Milky Way, they have created an image featuring approximately 84 million stars at the center of the universe.
Image of 84 million stars located at the center of the universe
This marks the largest study ever conducted on stars within the Milky Way.
The new image was generated after astronomers conducted observations from the Paranal Observatory in northern Chile, with a pixel size ten times larger than previous images, providing scientists with a clearer understanding of how the universe changes over time.
According to Chile’s leading researcher, Roberto Saito, by meticulously observing thousands of stars around the central region of the Milky Way, humanity can gain deeper insights into the formation and evolution of not only the Milky Way but also spiral galaxies in general.
