A dangerous piece of code aimed at exploiting a recently discovered security vulnerability in Apple’s Mac OS X operating system has been widely circulated on the Internet.
Security experts have identified this malicious code, which was published on the Metasploit Project website, and have officially warned users of the Mac OS X operating system as of yesterday.
According to experts, the emergence of this dangerous code could pave the way for malicious hackers’ attacks and increase risks for users.
This malicious code was created by an individual with the ID HD Moore, a registered member of the Metasploit Project, and is contained in a compressed ZIP file.
“This dangerous code targets a security flaw in the ‘Open Safe Files’ feature of the Safari browser in Mac OS X – a feature that allows the browser to open any executable file directly within the browser,” Symantec stated.
Symantec also reiterated its recommendation for users to disable the Open Safe Files feature in the Safari browser.
When this security vulnerability was discovered and announced on Tuesday of this week, Apple stated that they are working on developing a patch to address this security hole. As of now, no patch has been released.
