A local resident discovered a mysterious object while jogging, describing it as if it had “dropped down from outer space.”
On the morning of March 12, while taking his usual walk from his home in Hay-on-Wye (Powys, Wales), Craig Muir (37 years old) came across a “strange stone block”, shiny as if it had just been placed there by aliens, the New York Times reported.
From a distance, it looked like a lighthouse. It was a solid silver stone, but there was no clue as to how it got there or what purpose it served.
In a phone interview later that day, Muir remarked that it seemed “like it had just been dropped from space.”
This sight immediately attracted media attention, reminiscent of similar mysterious objects that “sprouted” up in various locations, first discovered in late 2020.
“It must be some kind of art installation. Normally, looking at it, people would easily think it’s a UFO or something from outer space that was dropped,” Muir expressed.
He described the location of the stone block as “in the middle of nowhere,” without any signs of human presence except for a few footprints he noticed. “I don’t know if anyone else has seen it.”

Muir, a stonemason, stated that the stone block is over 3 meters tall and 0.45 meters wide. He is unsure how much of it lies below the ground. The edges are very smooth, shiny, and sharp.
Calling it “a perfect monolith,” Muir commented that it “looks just like the stones in Egypt,” but “is made of steel and has no markings on it at all.”
This strange stone appears to be made of stainless steel. Muir noted that the object could be quite heavy since it did not budge even in strong winds.
As someone with experience in metalworking, he remarked according to his expertise that the creator of this monolith had done their job exceptionally well.
“There are no visible welds. Everything is very neat,” he expressed.
Muir is clearly not the only one who has seen it. Richard Haynes, who spoke with WalesOnline, mentioned that he discovered the object while running on Hay Bluff.
“I thought it looked a bit strange and could be some sort of scientific research equipment,” he said.
The stone in Wales is not the first to appear mysteriously. In the months during the pandemic at the end of 2020, similar objects emerged in various locations.
A research team studying sheep in Utah (USA) found the first object in November 2020 in a remote canyon in Red Rock County.

That one was dismantled overnight after a few days of discovery, but others subsequently “sprouted” in California (USA), Romania, and Turkey.
People often refer to them as monoliths, because they are large and upright, appearing in surprising locations, much like something from the film “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
Some have attempted to track the locations of these monoliths, seeking a strange metaphysical experience to compare with the experiences in the film. However, most ended up taking photos with their mobile phones and joking online.
Mr. Muir noted that Hay Bluff, overlooking the town of Hay-on-Wye, is a hill within Brecon Beacons National Park. Unfortunately, being located here could lead to the stone being removed soon.
