Researchers in China have examined data provided by Biobank, the UK’s biomedical data agency. They analyzed genetic, lifestyle, and health information from half a million individuals aged 40-69 living in the United Kingdom.
Michael Grandner, Director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Clinic at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona, USA, stated: “Sleeping less and staying up late are associated with poorer health, and short naps during the day cannot compensate for that. Other findings suggest that taking more naps seems to reflect an increased risk of cardiovascular issues and other health problems.”
While napping itself is not harmful, it can have adverse effects when individuals nap excessively during the day and stay up late at night.
