In the coming days, the northern region will continue to experience hot and oppressive weather, with many areas facing severe heat and consistently high temperatures. When will the weather finally cool down, and when can we expect a significant drop in temperatures in Hanoi?
The northern and central regions of our country are enduring an extended heatwave, likely the longest since the beginning of summer. In the north, temperatures range from hot to extremely hot, while in the central region, many places are experiencing particularly severe heat (when the daily maximum air temperature reaches 39oC or above).
During this heatwave, there are occasional brief showers and thunderstorms in the northern provinces, mostly concentrated in the evening and at night. These moments of rain can bring some temporary relief, but temperatures rise again afterward, so overall, this week in the north remains sweltering.

Throughout the week, the highest daily temperatures in Hanoi at noon and in the afternoon reach 43 – 46oC (the actual perceived outdoor temperature), creating a stifling heat. The winds from the southeast and west are light, contributing to a suffocating feeling. Furthermore, due to the urban heat island effect, it remains very hot in Hanoi even in the evening, with temperatures still around 39 – 40oC at 7 PM.
The prolonged hot weather makes anyone feel easily fatigued, with a risk of heat shock. Residents should take measures to shield themselves from the heat and, if possible, avoid going outside during peak heat times (midday and afternoon), as well as reduce outdoor sports activities.

According to current forecasts, a light northerly wind is expected to arrive in the north around next Monday (June 24), which will help lower temperatures and may cause heavy rain. Temperatures in Hanoi could decrease by 5 – 7oC, bringing an end to the heatwave.
