For the first time, Vietnamese gamers registered to participate in a series of international gaming tournaments, a form of esports that is increasingly popular among youth.
Representatives from Vietstarcraft, one of the largest and strongest gaming groups in Vietnam, announced that Vietnamese gamers will compete in the World Team Cup, organized by the renowned international gaming community of Starcraft Broodwar. The first match for the Vietnamese team (VietStarCraft Team) will take place at 9:00 PM on Sunday, March 12, 2006, against the Dutch team InC.
Entering the Regional Arena
Currently, top Vietnamese gamers are participating in another tournament running from February 18 to April 1, 2006. This is the ASEAN Open League, and it marks the first time Vietnamese players have registered for the competition.
Postponed after the first three matches of the ongoing round, with a score of 2-1 in favor of Vietnam, the final two matches against Australia were held on March 2.
With the outstanding performance of Moonlight Đoàn Lê Minh, Vietnam achieved its second victory in the tournament after losing 1-4 to Malaysia and winning against Thailand with a score of 3-2.
Võ Phạm Minh Đức, the manager and schedule coordinator for the Vietnamese team, stated that as Vietnam has only recently joined the online gaming industry and this form of gaming is not yet encouraged in the country, the Starcraft team faced several challenges in participating in the ASEAN Open League.
However, during the preparation for the tournament, the Vietnamese team had the opportunity to compete against teams from Greece, Poland, France, Italy, etc., which are strong nations in the world of competitive gaming.
Moreover, due to some experience from organizing the clan Hoàn Long’s participation in several international gaming tournaments, the Vietnamese team benefited from certain advantages in communication and scheduling, which are crucial for determining the success of the team against their opponents.
“Thanks to these proactive preparations, we entered the tournament with a relatively high level of confidence,” Minh Đức expressed eagerly.
With the online competition format, which is used in major global tournaments such as ESL-Eurocup, Clanbase Nation Cup, WGT War Of The World, etc., the ASEAN Open League breaks down geographical barriers.
Furthermore, due to minimal differences in time zones between countries, scheduling matches ensures minimal impact on the study and work time of gamers, who primarily are students. Matches are typically held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Stirring the Home Arena
Vietnamese gamers participating in the tournament include renowned players from leading Starcraft Broodwar clans in Vietnam, such as Đoàn Lê Minh, Nguyễn Minh Tuấn, Bùi Công Chính (Hoàn Long clan), Lê Nguyễn Thế Đạt, Bùi Khánh Duy, Nguyễn Trung Kiên (DreamVN clan), Lý Trần Tiến (VIE clan), and Vương Hoàng Thắng (Netchùa clan). |
Founded just two months ago, the e-LIVE! Tournament is a monthly recurring competition organized by the e-LIVE! Center, primarily aimed at promoting the development of gaming in Vietnam while creating a healthy playground for gamers from both regions of the country.
Building on the success of two tournaments for Counter Strike and Dota All Star (the first month hosted a Counter Strike tournament, while the second month featured a Dota Allstar competition), this March, the E-Live Tournament will host a Starcraft Broodwar tournament in a pairs format.
The event will take place at the e-LIVE! Center (9 Hồ Bá Kiện, P.15, Q.10, Ho Chi Minh City) and Game Đạt Boss (D6 Giảng Võ, Hanoi). The tournament will last for two days from March 25-26, 2006.
The head of the organizing committee for the tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, Võ Phạm Minh Đức, mentioned that each team consists of two official members and one substitute. Gamers participating in the tournament must be 12 years old or older and can only compete in one team.
