On March 9, 2006, the Department of Culture and Information (VHTT) conducted an unexpected inspection of computer software copyright compliance in collaboration with C15 of the Ministry of Public Security at the computer sales establishment located at 314 Ba Trieu, Hanoi. Initial findings revealed several violations, leading to the confiscation of evidence.

Using professional methods, the inspection team discovered several serious violations, confiscating four disks of infringing software (used for installation) and sealing eight CPU units that had non-licensed software installed on-site.
The surprise inspection began at 9 AM on March 9, 2006. The team consisted of several officials from the VHTT inspection department and two members of C15 from the Ministry of Public Security who unexpectedly checked the computer and electronic equipment sales establishment at 314 Ba Trieu.
This private establishment is registered under the name “Vietnam-Japan Equipment Business Limited Liability Company“. It employs over a dozen staff, with Ms. Phung Thi Thu Ha as the director. When the inspection team arrived, the establishment was conducting normal business activities and had a considerable number of customers.
At noon on March 9, 2006, Ms. Phung Thi Thu Ha – Director of Vietnam-Japan Equipment Business Limited Liability Company signed the violation handling record, acknowledged the wrongdoing, and committed to complying with regulations, while also agreeing to cease similar copyright infringement activities.
The head of the inspection team, Mr. Tran Van Minh (Deputy Head of the Press – Publishing Inspection Department at the Ministry of VHTT) stated that, temporarily, the team would confiscate the four infringing software disks, seal them, and allow the establishment to manage the eight CPU units with non-licensed software. Subsequently, the infringing software installed on those units would be removed.
Mr. Minh further indicated that final decisions regarding the handling of this case would be considered and announced by the end of this week or by Monday of the following week (March 13, 2006). VietNamNet will continue to provide updates on this matter to readers.
