The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), a satellite exploring the Red Planet, successfully entered orbit around Mars on March 10.
MRO will undertake a two-year mission to identify safe landing sites for future missions and to search for evidence that water once flowed on the surface of the planet. It will also monitor the surface (dust, water, temperature, etc.) and the atmosphere of Mars in unprecedented detail.
Launched on August 12, 2005, MRO is equipped with a $31 million camera system capable of capturing sharp images of small objects, such as a coffee table on Mars.
